Moira Stott Merrithew

Moira, under her maiden name of Stott, was the principle ballerina with the City Ballet of Toronto who later studied Pilates under Romana Kryzanowska. A neck injury prompted her to adapt some of the principles she learned in New York to be more in tune with contemporary exercise science.

Collaborating with physical therapists and sports medicine professionals, she developed her Pilates-evolved approach known as Stott Pilates . Among other subtle differences, Stott Pilates works with the natural curves of the spine in a neutral or imprint position.

In 1987, she opened up the Stott Pilates Studio which later expanded into the International Certification Center in Toronto, and now has a network of affiliated studios around the world. Her company also produces instructional manuals, videos and professional Pilates equipment.
